In the UK, about 3-4% of the population are thought to have ADHD and at least 1% are thought to be on the autism spectrum. Roughly one in 10 have dyslexia,1 but the truth of the matter is these figures are likely to under-represent the true numbers; it is to be expected that these will rise with increasing awareness and access to assessments. Autism assessments work best when they employ a collaborative and personalised approach, working closely with the individual being assessed. This helps me understand the individual’s perspective, emotions and struggles better, allowing me to uncover vital information that improves the efficacy of my diagnostic process. I use a variety of assessment techniques for this, such as questionnaires, self-reports, and interviews.
